Yanna

PRAY FOR HEALING

Iwalked into Ja’s hospital room alone and immediately broke down crying. His sister and his mother knew everything about me from our text messages they read in his phone, so they let me have some alone time with Ja. I had a queasy feeling in my stomach like I was going to be sick. All I could hear in my head was, "Don’t cry for me, even when I die." That was what Ja told me when I cried in his arms.

How could I not cry? We were just getting started, and now he was being taken out of my life.

I walked over to his bedside and wiped my tears away. I just stood there, watching his chest go up and down as monitors beeped. He looked peaceful, but he was hooked up to too many wires for my liking. The only thing that looked uncomfortable on him was the breathing tube down his throat. I reached into my Gucci handbag and pulled out my prayer beads. I had to do the only thing that helped me, and that was to call on my God.

“God the Father, Your will for all people is health and salvation. God the Son, You came so that we might have life and have it more abundantly. God the Holy Spirit, You make our bodies the temple of Your presence. You are the Lord who does wonders; hear me, O Lord of Life. Heal Jamari and make him whole. Oh, Lord, hear my prayer, O Lord hear my prayer, come and listen to me.”

I prayed the same prayer repeatedly until my throat was dry. I even started saying it in Spanish.

“Why did this happen to you, Jamari? You have to wake up. If you can hear me, your girls need you. Jalyn and your other two babies keep crying for you; they love you so much.”

I just stood there crying until Ja’s mother came in and hugged me.

“Don’t cry, Yanna. The doctor just told me there’s a chance that things can turn around. His body needs to heal, and he needs blood, so that’s why they put him in an induced coma. He should wake up in a week, but he’s going to need a lot of therapy and surgeries. He took ten bullets and survived. Trust me, honey, he wouldn’t want you crying over him. Go to my house and get some rest. Kayley will take care of you. You can come back tomorrow.”

I smiled as she wiped my tears away with a tissue. She was very nice and caring. “I’m just so worried about him.”

“We all are, and thank you for taking care of Jalyn and being there for my son. Jamari knows I worry about him every day because he is my only son. I was glad when he told me he was moving to California to change his life with the kids. Do you know why he came back here with Blasian?”

“She wanted to move back, so she left with two of the kids except Jalyn.
